Rooted and Rising: A Historic Moment for St. Joseph's Church
On May 2, 2026, Fr. Steven Soos delivered an inspiring Rooted and Rising Launch Presentation to the St. Joseph's Church community. This presentation marks an exciting milestone in our Rooted and Rising campaign — the capital campaign to build a new St. Joseph's church and academy in Armada, Michigan. This presentation beautifully captures the vision, history, and future of our growing traditional Catholic community under the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX).
Deeply Rooted in Tradition Since 1973
St. Joseph's has deep roots in Southeast Michigan. In 1973, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre chose Armada as the site for the first SSPX chapel in the United States. Faithful families literally built the church with their own hands, laying a strong foundation for the Traditional Latin Mass and authentic Catholic formation.
Over five decades, this seed has grown into a vibrant center of faith, including a priory, academy, and thriving parish family. The Rooted and Rising campaign honors that legacy while preparing for the next 50 years and beyond.
Preparing to Rise: The Vision for a New St. Joseph's
With full approval and support from SSPX superiors in Menzingen and Platte City, Missouri, we have purchased 22.3 acres of land in Armada — completely debt-free. This new site will allow us to:
Build a larger, permanent church worthy of the Traditional Latin Mass
Expand our academy for Catholic education rooted in timeless truth
Create a lasting beacon for families seeking the fullness of the Faith
Serve the growing number of souls drawn to traditional Catholicism and the Traditional Latin Mass in Michigan
